We welcome referrals from parents as well as professionals who work with your children. Please contact our customer service team for enquiries.

When attending your child’s initial assessment, the speech and language therapist (SLT) will use both informal and formal assessment to identify your child’s strengths and needs. The initial assessment will take one hour. If needed, by your consent, the therapist will go to your child’s school or your home to obtain more information. If your child has been seen by other health professionals (for example psychologists, occupational therapists), it will be beneficial for you to bring the reports to the assessment so the speech and language therapist can get a more detailed knowledge of your child’s development and associated concerns.

Before the assessment you will be asked to fill out a form to provide information of your child’s developmental history and your concerns about your child. The therapist will also ask you further information, such as whether or not your child has specific difficulties in certain areas of communication or feeding and swallowing issues.

During the assessment we will assess several areas of development, including attention, listening skills, understanding of language and your child’s expressive language.

Other observations may include oral-motor functions and sensory development, particularly related to feeding and speech.

After the assessment, the SLT will analyze all information obtained during the formal and informal assessment to identify specific areas of need. Based on the analysis, the SLT will plan individually customised goals for your child’s therapy sessions. There will be specific activities to target specific areas of need and these will be worked on both in the sessions and at home where possible.

You may request a formal assessment report from the therapist. Please note that this report will be charged accordingly. If required, this will be provided within 14 working days from the date of payment of assessment.
